Girls Nite!!!

About once a month, I get together for a great girls night with some friends from Vocal Team at Crossroads.  We all are around the same age, are all married (yay!  I can finally be added to that group!) and we share a passion for music and singing.

We rarely get to sing together, but this week, we all were at rehearsal last night and enjoyed dinner afterward.  It’s so great to have fun with these girls every month or so and catch up on the craziness of our lives.

Although we are in the same season of life, we are all at different points at the same time.  Akin to yesterday’s post, change happens–be it in the form of a new job, a new marriage, a vacation, etc.  It’s nice to come together and share stories, laughs, heartaches and know that at the end of the day, we’re just four girls who need some girl time every few weeks.

Oh–and the best part–they all sang at my wedding and it was B-E-A-utiful!

Changes…

Life changes, ya know.  We have areas of our life we are very committed to at different seasons.  We grow personally and that changes how we interact with others, how we perceive our job or our relationships in general.

In updating the blog yesterday, I was changing some of the “about me” to reflect the current changes that have happened in my life.  After reading my initial closing thought, the following just came out:

Never stay stagnant.  You’re always changing and God is always wanting to continually grow with you during that change.

I think that is one of the things I’m learning. Not only do I change, but the people around me change.  Some for the better, some for the worse.  Some change I am indifferent to and some change they are oblivious to.  It doesn’t really matter how I feel about the change.  I just must “be the river” as the beau often says and go with it  With that, I have to remember that God is also right there beside me flowing right along with me and my changes.  The changes in my own self I don’t yet understand.  The changes in my environment and relationships that I’m not sure will ever make sense.

Change isn’t easy, but just know that whatever changes are taking place in your life–be they insignificant or something that is affecting every aspect of your very livelihood–you are not alone.  God is with you.

As you can see, I’ve made some updates to the blog and included a few wedding shots.  It’s been just over a month since Lew and I tied the knot.  Can you believe it?  Craziness.

Anyway,  I cannot say enough about our wonderful photographer, Melissa Cooper of M Photography.  Not only are our memories well documented from one of the most exciting days of our life, we had a photographer who was fun, laid back and easy.  This meant SO MUCH for us since we wanted the day to be just that.

Melissa has a holiday special she just announced today.  If you are in the Lexington, KY area and need new photos of your family I would HIGHLY recommend her!

I love to write. I really do. I always had a diary in my younger days and beginning my sophomore year of college I started journaling and have kept up with it ever since.
Yes, there are many lapses in my books where entries are few and far between, but there is something about writing–about getting out what is in my head onto some pages for myself to reflect upon.
I’m not sure how many people actually read this blog, but that really isn’t the point. Maybe one day when the time is right and Lewie and I are living far off from folks who want to read our blog, or see pictures of our kids (again when the time is right) we’ll see more traffic. But for now, maybe this outlet just needs to be for me. For me to carve out some time in my “journal”.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing like curling up on the couch with my favorite black Moleskin, pen and a strong cup of coffee to unload. But there’s also something a bit refreshing to just take a few moments every morning and unload what’s going on here. Maybe this will work.
I’m gonna try it out and see what happens. Maybe I’ll change the format. Again. :) Maybe I’ll keep it. Maybe I’ll get comments. Maybe I won’t.
What is important that deep down, I’ll be symbolically curling up on my couch or sitting at my favorite little coffee shop downtown pouring out on these pages what is going on upstairs.

life is beautiful…don’t forget it.

I am loving married life! Things are going so well…the wedding was great and the honeymoon was super relaxing (Lewie is a great travel planner by the way). We spent two nights in downtown Savannah, two nights in downtown Charleston and then three nights at an AMAZING cabin outside of Asheville. We HIGHLY recommend the cabin if you’re needing/wanting a place to stay in that area. We sat on the porch for three days and drank coffee in these TINY little coffee cups the cabin provided. Our only job was to get up every 20 minutes or so to refill…it…was…great. We are now settling in to our day-to-day life together which is so fun.

Obviously for my few faithful readers you can see I haven’t been posting much but hope to get in a better routine of doing so. I’ll try and post some honeymoon pics. Wedding pics should be here soon!

Below is a song we heard one night on our honeymoon at a quaint little Italian restaurant in Charleston. We are reminded that life is precious as many of you know a friend of mine who I was an RD with at Lee University passed away at the young age of 37 yesterday due to complications with the H1N1 virus and Pneumonia. He leaves behind a Joanna –a stay at home mom with their two boys, McKaden (5) and Brenston (1), so life has dramatically changed for them. Please keep them in your prayers.

I know Joanna feels lucky to have been in love with her best friend.

The beau sent this my way this am and it was quite appropriate for the first week of classes for me at Georgetown.  I hope we all can take this to heart and enjoy what really matters…

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university Professor.

Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the Prof. went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain-looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the Prof. said “If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. That all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other’s cups.”

“Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, but the quality of Life doesn’t change. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it.”

Healthcare…

Although I’m not one to have an overly stated opinion on politics in general, the health care debate is one topic that I’m quite interested in based on my own experience and with my Mom’s health concerns.

Something old, something new…

My self-imposed deadline to have all wedding related tasks completed was July 31. August and September are crazy at work and then BAM–it’s October!

I was close to meeting my goal.  VERY close.

Just a few more things remain, but I do feel cool as a cucumber on where I am with the task list.

But there is that one thing.

Or four things.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

I have the new…quite a few new things, but on the rest, I’m faltering.  BIG TIME!

This is the one thing that I haven’t been that focused on accomplishing…just one of those traditions that has somewhat slipped my mind.  And since I’m a pretty non-traditional bride, it keeps slipping.  Unless I”m around a certain few friends who are more stressed about me having these four things than I am. (Love you girls!)

I was telling the Beau earlier today how I needed to update my blog becuase I was behind.

His reply–”You aren’t behind.  You are only where you are.”

So true.  How many times in life we get frustrated becuase we aren’t where we wish to be when in reality, we are simply where we are…
